Honors Courses at Grand Oaks High School

- students who are wanting the challenge above levels classes but aren’t ready for college classes are missing out - families that can’t afford to pay for the AP exams or DC classes are missing out - underclassman are at a disadvantage, thy will have to make a larger jump from levels to a college level course with nothing in between - this should have been decided BEFORE the course selection process began to eliminate changes - students need better guidance on how to pic what is right for them - straight As in levels does not provide an opportunity for NHS that requires above a 4.0 to even qualify

As an alumni of GOHS, who took level, honors and AP classes, i feel that removing honors courses from the campus is doing a disservice to students and their education.

We need honors classes for students who fall in between level and AP

Some kids are too advanced for level classes, but don't want the pressure of AP courses. Honors classes are a great middle ground for those students. Please do not get rid of these courses.

How can an A rated high school not offer 9th grade honors classes?!! I know first hand the value of an honors track. Please don’t make this mistake. On behalf of all tge stidents of CISD.

honors classes are really important because they give students a chance to challenge themselves and grow. Not every student learns the same way, and some of us actually do better when the work is harder and pushes us to think more. Honors classes help us build skills like responsibility, time management, and critical thinking, which we’ll need in college and in the future. They also give students who are motivated a place to be around others who want to learn and do their best. Taking honors classes away wouldn’t make things more fair it would just take away opportunities for students who want to be challenged. Keeping these classes means supporting all kinds of learners and helping everyone reach their full potential.

Honors classes need to be brought back. Levels classes are hard to deal with considering students and education. And AP classes can wipe students out

My kids aren't headed to high school yet, but I would hope they will have the opportunity to take honors classes once they get there. I remember taking honors classes myself, and it was great to be pushed and to learn without the headache of the logistics of college credit or AP tests.

I respectfully ask for the decision to be reconsidered

If only level and AP exist, schools unintentionally create two extremes: • Students who need support • Students ready for the highest rigor Honors serves the large middle group who: • Are motivated • Want challenge • But still need scaffolding Removing honors courses will create a gap for students who fall between the top-easy vs. too hard group of students. I ask that you reconsider this decision. While I understand finding the man power to fill each class could be an issue, it should not come to the detriment of our students. Adults need to step up and fix the problem.

Honors classes should not be phased out. This forces students to either take level or AP classes. Level classes tend to be more rowdy. AP classes can be more demanding than we want for our son. He will be in band next year and we don’t want him stressed out with trying to keep up with the demands of excessive school work and band. Honors classes provide him with the challenging work he needs without having to deal with the distractions that often occur in level classes.
