Be intelligent, do your Disney canon for your movies (As I said, your movies, I won't be watching them), but allow the EU to continue!!! Star Trek allows for both the reboot (movie and books) and the legacy books. Don't go Jar Jar on us!!

The expanded universe has been a huge part of my life! In fact I liked the EU before I even saw any of the movies! The EU is special in the sense that it allowed fans to experience the star wars universe outside of the movies, and it created a vast and interesting history that makes the universe seem even more real! The EU has so much potential and to waste it is just horrible!

The true story of the galaxy far far away lies in the passion of the brilliant chronicles that where weaved as fate of the many would have them with passion and care, not primed and bleached of their brilliance just for the masses, but untamed and tangled as fates always unfold. The past cannot be discarded and rewritten once the energy has been spent, why should the now not coincide with such? To unbind the galaxies happenings is to sever our being from the force that binds us penetrates us and surrounds us. In conclusion, the respect and understanding of the past must make up the future, for if this fact falls short, those who have resided in the galaxy of far, beyond and long ago, will reject the falsehoods for the the eternal truths.

I am very disappointed with the decision to render the Expanded Universe as non-canon material that will only be cherry picked over by future filmmakers and writers at their own convience. I can understand the need to create a singular cohesive timeline for the Star Wars franchise and allow director J.J. Abrams the creative freedom he needs to take the Star Wars series in a new direction. But this decision was never needed, the Expanded Universe could have offered J.J. a rich variety of settings, characters, conflicts, etc., on which he could have made a beautiful film that would have pleased the Star Wars fandom. But now all of that stuff has been erased and cause many fans of Star Wars to dread the release of the next film because they won't recognize any of the characters beyond the returning original cast from Star Wars. There is something unique about Star Wars that causes its fans to feel like they have a stake in what happens to it. Maybe this is a result of the participatory culture that exists today. Fans of Star Wars and those of the E.U. feel rightly betrayed by Disney and Lucasfilm because the characters they have come to love have been sidelined and told that they aren't good enought to exist within the universe that George Lucas created. While Mr. Lucas created a masterpiece of modern mythology in the form of the Star Wars franchise even a franchise as large as Star Wars needs a history that goes beyond the six films and the TV shows. It would be like someone taking the Lord of the RIngs by J.R.R. Tolkien without explaining the backstory of Middle-Earth and how both the Hobbit and the Silmarillion relate to the Lord of the Rings. It isn't something that has worked in the past and it won't work now. Reinstate the Expanded Universe as the official canon of Star Wars and integrate the new films, books, and tv shows into the already rich framework that has been established by authors like Timothy Zahn and Karen Traviss.

If they adapted a film from the Bible and people suddenly decided that two-thirds of it was fan fiction, people would lose their minds. Well, this is the same principle, so show some respect for people who revere the Star Wars mythos as much as some people revere the religion mythos. 'Nuff said.

Star Wars is a cultural phenomenon handed down to me by my father as so many others have handed it down to their kids... There is no reason to disregard the expanded universe and alienate the true fans. I know myself and other fans will be much more interested in the new films (beyond movie tix there is i, etc... face it we nerds will put money into anything Disney puts a pricetag on if we love the new films...) if respect is paid to the universe as a whole. Disney has always been a leader in guest service in its parks and resorts and has made its name by being 'family'. I would say that incorporating the universe that everyone loves into the new films is an opportunity to continue with that identity in this new area of the Disney family. Surely there is no reason the new film cannot be commercial whilst honoring these values... Thank you for your time and consideration.

I see no reason to just cast away years worth of hard work by various creators. I understand not wanting to frighten away new people but there's a better way of doing it.
