Hold Public Meetings on Scarsdale Surveillance System

No issue with adding safety measures but process must follow proper protocols.

This secret deal with Flock tells us who the town leaders are. They are plainly aware that an open discussion on the subject with us, the Village taxpayers, would have resulted in the Flock system being denied. Since that was not acceptable, they made the deal in the dark. This may not be legal. A legal response should be considered. Furthermore, these mass surveillance systems have the following effects: 1) In addition to surveillance and data harvesting, AI monitoring will be used to send speeding tickets and other violations to residents. 2) Since traffic enforcement will be managed by AI, the town will not need as many police officers, so officers that leave will not be replaced, and some may be laid off. 3) All AI mass surveillance provides the opportunity for numerous parties to purchase the data. Whatever the town leaders are saying about “privacy,” like all other data it will be sold and/or given to unknown parties. That is the purpose of data collection. There is a subterranean network of data brokers who make enormous profits on our data, and corporations and governments weaponize this information against us. For example, do the wealthy residents of Scarsdale want to have higher prices imposed on them because AI knows they can afford it? 4) The technocratic management of citizens’ behavior contributes to the ongoing breakdown of social trust. This is the most terrible price. A cowed, monitored, atomized populace that receives tickets from computers and demerits on their social credit score is a miserable group. The elimination of trust and respect leads inevitably to a failed state. The technocrats currently in power are messianic Social Darwinists. They deeply believe that using AI to improve citizen behavior through carrots and sticks will lead to their Utopia of perfected human beings, while those who misbehave will not be able to participate. There are better ways to spend our tax dollars. I am totally against the surveillance system being installed.

The proposed level of surveillance is not needed in Scarsdale as we are not current subjected to high crime because of our excellent police department. Plus it could easily be used to target citizens by a fascist government, and we all know how that always turns out.

We need to complete the pool first then the playing fields (without artificial turf) We should not add another million plus dollar project to our budget at this time.

Political action starts at home

Scarsdale is exceptionally safe. We do not need a networked surveillance system. Especially one run by a company that voluntarily gives information to ICE and DHS.
