This was a “practice drill”. Let’s get it right in the event that our students need to be protected.

I couldn't agree more with Maggie's petition. Our kids and their teachers and other school staff need to be absolutely positive how to react and respond in emergency situations like what happened on Friday.
There needs to be a set protocol that goes into effect when an alarming situation occurs - for everyone involved.

I am a grandparent and legal guardian of a student at VVHS. I was shocked and appalled when I received a message nearly 3 hours after the lock down happened. We as adults/ parents should able to hold school officials accountable. Where is the principal?

The entire discipline system needs to change too. My grandson was REPEATEDLY attacked by a fellow student, that he did not know. Nothing was done until his parents insisted the attacker be brought in to talk to the asst. principal. A slap on the hands was all that happened. I do not believe our children are safe in our schools.

Kids need to be able to message parents when a situation is playing out. It is scary and traumatizing and that doesn't lessen if communication is shut off. At the very least, APS needs to alert parents of any and all lockdowns or threats - that needs to change going forward. If there is an active shooter and the situation is resolved, then have a back up plan with city buses or other modes of transportation to evacuate kids that don't have their own vehicles. They can be picked up by parents at a designated safe location. Kids do not need to go back to class. They need to have space and time to process this trauma. This is our reality now and I am grateful for the staff and the APD who kept the situation from escalating. As a parent though, I NEED to know what is going on with my kid at school.

I am a producer with the public radio show This American Life. Working on a show about school lockdowns. I'm hoping to speak with students who want to share their experiences of lockdowns. If anyone on here has a student or knows families who would like to talk I would love to connect. chana AT thislife DOT org. Thank you!

Why was nothing mention to parents or posted on aps website? Unacceptable!!! Parents Waited with anxiety wanting to know what was going on with their child! I'm aware of three situations this week that we're not mentioned to anybody.

I am a parent of a student at Sandia High School and am very frustrated with the lack of information from our principal and APS as a whole. We as parents deserve to know the truth about any possible threats to our students' safety and we deserve to know it in a timely manner!
