Thanks for your comment ! We should indeed give the priority to our major and other points of interests. Some GE courses can be interesting and students should be able to take them willingly but not if they are not interested in it. GE should be optional, the current free-elective system should be extended and GE should be part of this optional mechanism giving students choices... Let's also not forget that students in a university should have the possibility to minor in another field of interest. Unfortunately, I haven't seen anyone taking a minor given the lack of motivation which is mainly due to the fact that GE has unnecessarily taken some time that they could spend minoring in a discipline that interests them. Sadly, many interesting courses are held during a GE course... Once again, thanks for your time. Regards,

Thanks for your comment ! This citation is well picked ! Unfortunately - in our case - what interferes with our learning is administration. The administrative requirements overtake academic ones. The administration has in fact a huge influence on academic staff, this interference has not proven effective but it has on the contrary been harmful. Thanks for your comment ! 'Forcing' is the good word. We unfortunately are forced /obliged / constrained to respond to this nebulous so called 'requirement'. We have to focus on our major and points of interest or in other words: things that make us passionate. Thanks for your comment ! As you say, opportunities are sacrificed as there is a constant need for students to respond to the GE requirement in spite of other electives they might be interested in. Sadly, it seems that the administration does not take passion into consideration. This is truly what we can describe as a serious harm to academic freedom which is primarily about the freedom of choice. Let's hope for prompt and major changes. Regards,

You seem to be passionate about your own field of interest : European Studies but you are not given the possibility to investigate more into it... Let's hope that there will be concrete changes in the near future. It is great to have 'freshmens' willing to make changes and caring for their education. Thanks for your comment ! Indeed, four years is barely enough to do so... Given the huge amount of unnecessary GE courses, our time to 'explore our own fields of interest' is reduced at least 2 years meaning that we have only 2 years to specialize and get some experience: year 1 is introductory and consists of GE, year 2 is introducing us to our specialization but GE.requirements prevail, year 3 has GD courses (a subsidiary of GE)... After calculating, we have overall at most 2 years (if not less) to truly specialize... 'Barricade' is the good term since such courses are impeaching students to focus on their points of interest...
