HKBU should stop imposing General Education courses.

I support this petitioner's views. I am a HKBU student in International Journalism just like him. He one of my many editors for TYR. I have to take Numeracy this semester and it is a complete waste of my time. I would much rather be writing something for TYR or Jenny's class, not to mention that I am genuinely terrible at math. Anyways, I will just end this comment with a quote as well. Knowledge that is acquired under compulsion obtains no hold on the mind. ------Plato

Totally agree as a Nursing Student who has to take lots of GE subjects unrelated to Nursing or healthcare.

Although GE course are aim to achieve "wholeperson development" most of the lecturer set it's requirement too high, while we need to waste our time on courses that I'm not interested in.

Thanks a lot for your support ! Indeed, GE courses (the implementation of GE courses) are pointless. It is in fact something that will likely never be used in the future. The courses (e.g. Manage your money / PE and so on) will only be useful if students take them willingly which isn't the case. At the same time, it would be far more useful for students to be able to fill their credits with either major courses (in order to specialize) or simply by taking courses in which they are interested, passionate. Dear Wai, Thanks for your comment ! Unfortunately, the current implementation of GE is useless as you say so well. A General Education can only be useful if students are given a choice about what they take. Yet, the school's authority seems not to understand this. Unfortunately, this is what happens to most students: they do take GE courses just for te sake of 'fulfilling' the requirement. GE courses are useless for us and certainly a waste of time on topics that we are not interested in when we can barely utilise them in the future. The school must face the reality and do not just expect the ideal outcome that is not real. This spoonful system must be changed.

The petition should be supported. The existence of GE requirement is unhealthy towards both students and teaching staffs. It leads to non-sustainable and detrimental learning arrangements for all HKBU students. Meanwhile, malicious schemes are detected along with the GE course policy. (read the author's other articles for more) All in all, no way should a student's learning process be interrupted, especially when there are potential scams behind the scene.

HKBU should definitely stop forcing students do GE courses and give back us the right to choose minors
