Hill House was a wonderful school for both my children and I can't believe Ofsted's report.

My son went to Hill House. Brilliant teachers, wonderful and successful experience for him. It's not a "business" but a family owned school with a family ethos. As a lawyer (UK) I'd like to know how these inspections operate!? Lapses in admin functions do not a bad school make . I strongly oppose the overall implications of this report

I really couldn't believe what I was reading when I saw Hill House's Ofsted report. Hill House is an incredibly unique and exceptional school with supportive, caring teachers and enthusiastic pupils, and I benefitted so much from the school as a pupil and, although it may be slightly unconventional, I thoroughly enjoyed my time there.

As someone who worked for a government agency myself I am very familiar with being inspected and carrying out inspections. Whilst there is evidence that Hill House needs to update policies and procedures, the conclusions regarding the teaching are at odds with those published in May last year.

Our daughter went to the school and it was an absolute delight of an environment for her to grow up. The teachers there have a strong ethic on the whole child and fundamental principles of life. The team would do well to learn some of the deeply rooted philosophy of the school and to understand why the children feel passionate about it. Everywhere can be improved but I trust the improvements the report has identified are balanced with the generous and extraordinary spirit of the school.

We are 6 years into our Hill House experience as a family with 2 boys who attend the school. Our experience of the school is very positive and both our sons have been happy pretty much every school day. We have found a high level of teaching throughout and have always been impressed by the long and dedicated tenures of the staff. Any issues we have hadhave always been dealt with professionally and with great warmth and concern. We find it both offensive and disturbing that this particular Ofsted report has been picked up on by the press in such a derogatory manner and hope that the reaction of the vast majority of the parents will demonstrate to Ofsted that their report is erroneous.

That is a letter my husband and I wrote to Mr. & Mrs Townend this morningDear Mr. & Mrs. Townend As a parent of two boys who have been more than ably taught at Hill House, I'm writing to offer my family's support following what we see as uninformed and unjustified criticism of the school in the press following the adverse OFSTED report, itself a unreasonable account of the admirable services your school offers. Should you wish to use us in any way - including quoting our views to the press - we would be delighted to assist. As you will know, we have one boy coming up to the end of 8 years at Hill House and our elder son was at the school for his last three years at prep school. Both children have gained entry to a first-rate public school in no small measure due to the excellence of the teaching and care shown to them at HH. Both agree that, perhaps as a result of mistaken bias against what is seen as 'privilege', the school has recently been completely misrepresented in the media. Safety and security of the children is, of course, of paramount importance to all concerned parents. However, the current pervasive climate of 'health and safety' in this country obscures the fact that Hill House acts as a local beacon of light in comparison to the chaos of indifference to pupils in many alternative schools in the area. Why else would Hill House parents willingly spend the fees they do, if not to give their children the best educational start in life that they can afford? We are very sorry that such a valuable institution as yours has been treated so shabbily and would be anxious to put the record straight were we given the opportunity to do so. With kind regards Yours sincerely Rodney & Regiane Wermig

Although there is room for improvement and some of the OFSTED comments need to be addressed by the school, I believe that reporting Hill House as Inadequate in all 4 categories is a step too far.

My daughter has been at Hill House since she was 4 years old and due to leave this July. I have nothing but praise for the school and its teachers. Their warmth, support, excellent teaching and attitude is 100% spot on. Ofstead need to get their facts right and rectify their report.
