HWY 236 Pedestrian Safety Improvements

I am very concerned about the risks and hazards on our roadways. Awareness is needed and action is imperative before more lives are lost. Thank you.

We need to make pedestrians a priority!

Hwy 9 safety concerns us all. I would love to see every car w/ lights on 24/7, as shadows, bright sun, curves and tiny bike lanes are a dangerous combination. Also, bikers and pedestrians could wear blinking lights, too. It is scary passing them in the dark, only inches away on the road.

Get it done the same way we had to do with the lights at the school it took over eight kids before that happened and there was a lot less cars then.

This needs to happen to save future lives and to honor the lives lost.

I walk on 236 and ride the Metro I do not feel safe walking with my sons on 236.

The number of speeding cars every day is really dangerous. This is an area with many users -- kids crossing to and from their bus stops, people going to the golf club, neighbors walking their pets, cyclists...If anybody from your office could spend just a few hours here, you'd see what we're talking about. Another tragedy is just around the corner unless there are some measures put in place. And this may be dreaming but a dedicated lane or sidewalk to cycle into town would be fantastic. But, first, let's make sure nobody else dies unnecessarily on this stretch of road.

After living along 236 for over 20 years, I am completely in favor of all the great ideas proposed. It appears we have an open window now to be heard and action taken. Thank you for getting it rolling!

it would be nice to see a sidewalk and bike lane all the way to town. A 4 way stop at west and east Hilton would slow people down. One reason I think people drive so fast at this part of the road is because it is one of only a few straight aways

People drive WAY too fast on these narrow, winding roads. I constantly see the same problem on Bear Creek road.

I work in the Pro Shop at the golf course 5 days a week. I live on Kings Hwy. I witness cars speeding through the 236/Kings Hwy & 236/Hilton intersections daily with several close calls regularly. We have a large community of pedestrians from dog walkers to people walking for exercise or simply visiting their neighbors in addition to the local vehicular traffic entering or leaving Kings Hwy & Hilton Drive/Hwy 236 and golfers crossing the highway in two locations. Add in the bicycle traffic and tourism in the summer. Marsha was a friend of mine. No matter what is done with signage, lower speed limits etc., speeders will continue to make 236 unsafe unless our CHP and Sheriff's Dept. do some ongoing and agressive enforcement to deter speeding on Hwy 236. This ain't the wild West anymore.

Marsha was my Sister in Law . Since the tragedy that took her life I have witnessed countless infractions of carelessness with disregard of speeding cars. It scares me just to try to enter 236 from Kings Highway . The County needs to facilitate the safety of the community .

With 3 pedestrian fatalities in the past year, it is long overdue to make pedestrian safety a priority!

Modern vehicles can handle 35mph just fine on mountain roads, I would bet 40 or 45 would be fine too. Those who deliberately go under the speed limit and don’t turn out just add time to everyone’s commute. I truly feel sorry for the woman who was hit on 236 by the golf course but it is my understanding she was hit by a drunk driver, not a sober speeder. Wage war on DUIs instead of those who are going to work. Maybe it’s time for a bridge at the golf course intersection. These mountains have problems with Meth, hash oil labs, domestic violence, alcoholism, and unbelievable response times for police and ambulances. Maybe they could get to our homes faster with a 40mph speed limit.

It’s time to make our neighborhood feels safe again. Multiple fatalities in the past few years due to speeding MUST STOP! Thank you
