I agree that school sports should be able to replace PE requirements! I don't agree with the section stating "Student athletes will still be required to take the freshmen physical education and health courses, and the only classes that can be waived are the two semesters of PE that are currently needed in addition to those freshmen courses." I don't know why Freshman PE couldn't be waived with a school sport as well. Of course the health requirement would stay, but why the PE? Also, the statement "Individuals that do not participate in school sports will still be required to take the full three semesters of PE to fulfill the graduation requirements," should include "or the equalivant of" since students should keep the the ability to do the online or written PE alternatives.

After school sports and other outside sports should be counted towards PE. Since kids are actually getting physical activity. It doesn’t make sense for those kids to double up on their activity.

I agree that students should get credits for time spent practicing and playing Sports.

My child is a student athlete. Between the sport and the coach led conditioning sessions during the off season she is receiving more than enough physical activity. Add that with marching band (as well as concert band) and AP classes she is full up!

My daughter is an LWSD student athlete. This is a sensible change.

This should include club sports. My daughter plays soccer year round for Crossfire.

Would like to see rowing and/or other sports not offered through the district count towards PE, as well.

2-3 Varsity Sports + PE = Overuse injuries. I have the medical bills to prove it. Northshore already does this. Many thanks to those championing this effort.

My kids participate in both school and club sports. They go to Tesla STEM which doesn't offer PE. I would love for them to get credit for the 100s of hours they spend in sports each year and not have to spend extra hours writing the PE plan or studying for a PE exam.

Yes. PE is a big unnecessary time commitment for student athletes who are already strapped for time - often needing to choose between studying or cutting back on sleep. The longer school Day makes this even more crucial. PE also often conflicts with training or meet schedules —- for example doing a timed mile run right before a big meet.

I like that they still require themselves to do one semester of general PE. This petition honors the curricular goals of Physical Ed departments, while recognizing the extraordinary effort student athletes exhibit by playing team sports.

Students get a much better physical education and participate in a lot more activities in school sports as opposed to PE class. School sports should count for PE credits.

I play a ton of sports all year long and I still try to figure out a way to get everything needed for the P.E credit and I have been waiting for so long to have something like this available. My question has been answered
