It's important that these men and women are able to gather and then ride in honour of the fallen troops.

what this ride and rally does for our troops moral and benefits is unbelievable. What it will do for your downtown merchants is bring in a boon of a day on money spent. Do not go by the Oshawa theory as the only ones against it here were council and even the way they handled the request was disgusting in the way they led the organisers to believe it was all covered. These motorcyclists coming into your town are good people who have big hearts, some of them are police officers, firemen and EMS personel. Lose your stigma of bikers being hooligans. I myself do not ride but I do attend with my family every year and have never had any problems with these people ever. Do it for our servicemen and women, do it for your merchants, just do it you will not regret it.

Born and raised in Port Hope area...This would be a good event that will bring a healthy boost of tourism, business, attraction and admiration for the town of Port Hope. It is a one-day event that should be treated as a festival, like Float your fanny, or the slide that blocked off Walton, this is just an event, for a good cause, and it can only benefit Port Hopes image and business profit. Saying no is actually an insult, as if the few who said no speak for us all! Why say no to this? What heritage are they afraid of losing? What are they trying to preserve? The bikers arent going to tear down the buildings or wreck Port Hope somehow. Can't they just try it once here and see how it goes before turning it down? I am always impressed when I see the hundreds of bikes passing by, pretty amazing turnout of people.. hungry, thirsty people willing to spend some of their money in Port Hope! Many are weekend warriors and veterans, so lighten up Port Hope! Half the town are veterans already anyways!

Many of the participants of the HHR are those who have served on the front lines and as 1st Responders. What message are you sending them that they don't "fit the image" of Port Hope? If the image of a typical PH resident is that of an ungrateful, unappreciative, elitist, profiteering, introvert, then you're dead right. They/we don't fit that image and never will.
From a financial standpoint, how you can think that an influx of ~2500 people in a day who have the disposable income to adopt motorcycling as a hobby will not have a discernible economic impact on your town is beyond me.
Y'all just need to smarten the hell up. Stat.

Worrying that some councillors would vote to refuse a rally honouring /supporting our troops and "not fitting the image of the quiet historic municipality " but welcome other events that have less meaning but just making money for the town. Show of hands please of those councillors who've served in the military.

I believe this should be held. I lived in Cobourg and my mom is in Port Hope. Currently live in Bowmanville but would go down to support

I want the Highway of Heros Motorcycle Rally to come to and through Port Hope. We need to acknowledge and praise these Heros and this will by no means tarnish the look of Port Hope or hurt any businesses. In fact, I believe it to be good for the Port Hope economy and is welcomed by all merchants.

Port Hope needs everyone who currently travels there to ship, eat out and buy gas to go there in the future. We will only continue to shop in Port Hope if they VOTE YES on allowing the Heroes Highway Motorcycle Rally to take place there. Show support for our veterans and their families. Step up and do it now Port Hope.

This is a very respectful event, as an avid motorcycle rider and president of a provincial body of motorcycles I think this would be a great location for the event. I grew up in the area and would definitely come back to the area and stay the weekend for the event. I am sure that many other riders would stay in town for the event, eat before and after the event and most likely do a lot of shopping and browsing in downtown Port Hope.

I live in port hope and ride and I think this is a great way to bring tourism to the town. Shame on the council for not asking the public what they thought. Since everyone I've talked to is pro rally!

Embarrasing for Port Hope that this is even an issue. Should have went through and welcomed in no time. Cobourg will host them with open arms.

Without veterans we wouldn't be where we are today. I beg that the Council authorizes this because by saying "it doesn't fit our image", the only image you will have is an "image of the town who disrespects veterans and only think of profits"

I agree it would help put Port Hope on the map and if there are volunteers required for cleanup after I will volunteer.
The words that caught me the most which were very compelling were that the motorcycles will never be as loud as the war.
