  • Petition to allow Chickens as view as a pet with no intention of roosters for purpose of providing eggs for your own personal family. With exceptions of having to pay a permit annually and allow inspections of coops if town redeems necessary to check for proper housing, predator proofing and containment of hens.

Updates

May 1, 2020

I have been meeting with the town board to outline exactly how coop inspections could work for our local families. Please email your council representative today to demand they put this permitting process on the next agenda.

May 1, 2020

Reaching this milestone proves that our neighborhood is ready for home-grown eggs and responsible coop management. Post the link on your Facebook page today and email your local council member to demand a vote on our permit proposal.

Even the city of Indianapolis allows urban chicken farming. They have rules as to number of chickens, etc but they allow it officially in their zoning laws. Camden being a rural community should definitely allow this. Please see Marion County Code of Ordinances Sec. 743-306 subsection W and Table 743-306-3

Chickens are actually less of a nuisance and danger than your household dog or cat. If they are contained, limited to a certain number and no roosters, most people wouldn't even realize they are there. They are easy to maintain and don't smell. No logical reason why they shouldn't be allowed for personal consumption of eggs.

We had chickens in Delphi because we had the understanding we were allowed. I was wrong and had to give my chickens away! It was for our daughter’s 4-H. Hope this goes through. Kids can learn so much and give them responsibility for another life. Besides they can see the value of hard work.

Chickens are not only great for eggs but are affectionate, adorable pets. They also are great for pest control and eat so many bugs and ticks which could otherwise spread disease

I believe that allowing up to 12 chickens (the number indicated in this petition) would allow families to provide a source of food for their families.
