The system is broken. The automated phone service doesn't give you the option to simply speak to someone. There aren't options for all questions. It sends you round and round a loop. Simply is the operative word. They make it very very difficult to get a hold of a live person. It should be more user friendly. They also said you have to update your info every 6 months. After you do that if you need assistance within those 6 months you have to do it all over again. Fill out forms, upload bills and documents, etc. It's not always easy to upload the necessary paperwork. ETC ETC ETC

I encourage anyone who holds a position to do more to help families get the services they desperately need. Making the system work rather than making it a hardship for so many who are left behind. So many who give up and is costing lives. Show some humanity and compassion for those who desperately need it. Please.

As a mom of a child with ASD we waited on several lists for ABA for about a year after being diagnosed. Our pediatrician's rep actually continued working with us and actually located an office just up the street from our home - and they were fabulous. We just felt the time missed being taken out of school for ABA school would delay our son more. And the cost, though supposedly covered was insane! We paid in installments over the span of many months for attending just during the 2 months of the summer. The ABA set up offered a lot of the same services we already received for free in our school system. For us, it did not make sense. Speech and OT options are what need to be covered, not just ABA. Those are what we really needed! We waited a year on one other list and finally got called by them also, only when we had decided ABA was not our best route. Being on the fence about ABA after reading so many horror stories, we were apprehensive going in. Other than cost and losing school time our experience was really positive. Healing Haven was wonderful, and got us right in and promoted parent involvement too. Sadly many never find a place to even get in.
We need more AFFORDABLE and ACCESSIBLE options like them!

The schools failed my daughter so severely that we were forced to homeschool. Not to say that homeschooling is bad. Everyone learn what your rights are about IEP's and 504's before signing on or off.
