PUBLIC PETITION: To: The Residents of Eatontown! The Eatontown Municipal Planning Board is currently hearing an application for the Super WAWA store/gas station to be placed on the site of the old Eatontown Roller Skating Rink adjacent to our residential community. This 141,133 square foot lot would house a 5,589 square foot convenience store, a 5,586 square foot super gas station with 12 fueling pumps and 39,509 square feet of parking spaces that would be open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It will never be closed. It\'s 60,000 gallon underground storage tanks will pump an average of 110,000 gallons of gasoline a week. That\'s almost six million gallons of gasoline a year! Right next to our homes! We have been fighting this proposal because it violates a standing proximity ordinance that prevents this type of business in that location. In addition, the health and safety hazards and property devaluation it will bring to our neighborhood and community as a whole is unacceptable. Due to pressure from residents, the board was forced to evaluate the Ordinance 89-44C(5)(g) which states: \"No gasoline filling station or service station shall be located nearer than 2,000 feet to any other filling station nor closer than 200 feet to any residential zone boundary line. Such distances shall be measured as the distances between the nearest property lines of the respective sites.\" By signing this petition, we agree that a variance to Ordinance 89-44C(5)(g) cannot and should not be granted. If the Planning Board feels that WAWA has provided sufficient and convincing expert opinion supporting their application, this could result in the board granting a variance and disregarding this Ordinance. This application has been before the planning board and argued by residents for the past year and we believe WAWA has not provided convincing expert opinion to support that decision. Therefore, your signature on this petition will send a strong message to the board that the community is united AGAINST ignoring Ordinance 89-44C (5) (g) that was put there to protect the residents, us! And we are united against granting the variance request in this WAWA proposal. Our signatures will influence the decision of the Planning Board because WE ARE THE EXPERTS AT LIVING IN EATONTOWN!
