Help stop the DCDSB from moving our grade 7-8 Students to High School

I am totally against this move! Our children are too young to be placed with older children. It seems to me that the Catholic board is FORCING our kids to grow up too fast all because they made a mistake in not building a catholic high school sooner and because they are losing all the students to the public. I think the Jr. High of grade 7/8 sounds much better to their learning, safety and general welfare.

As a parent of a daughter I have a big issue with this. Luckily my child is in the public system however if it was to change across both boards I would pull her out and put her in private schools for those two years. There are too many concerns to spell out on this page however I don't believe it is the best interest of the children. If you would like to give them better access to a better building etc why not just build more Jr. Highs in Durham? Makes no sense except for economics for the board.

Let our kids be kids in elementary school and don't force them to grow up faster than they have to. What looks good on paper to save money is not necessarily what works in children's lives.

I'm a big believer in Catholic Education and am very concerned about what the outcome will be if you follow through with sending our Intermediate grades to the high school. Please listen to the pleas of these parents. I know many will certainly switch their children and taxes to the public system.

Do not agree on this at all! Too many negatives - unsupervised bussing, parking lot full of new drivers with young children trying to navigate through, drugs, etc. . As a parent I want my children to be safe, comfortable and worry free. Saying that this new system will improve education, then I ask why do I need to move my children to high school to receive it? Plans should be constructed to achieve it at their current school!

Using our children as pawns for your poor decisions is unacceptable. I have nothing positive to say in regards to the DCDSB trying to mix 7 & 8 with 9 to 12.

This is a very bad idea. It is only for the school boards to save money. I will also put our young children in bad situations

This also limits the kids chances to play on sports teams and join clubs as the selection pool is bigger and the teams are now reduced.

Stop trying to force children to grow up sooner than they have to. Let them enjoy their last 2 years of elementary school as the leaders of the school, they grow and learn so much during this time. Others look to them for guidance as they are the oldest in the school, don't take this away from them.

Please let current grade 7 Catholic kids finish grade 8 at their school. What a shame. And for the future please consider the leadership opportunities for the grade 7 and 8 kids being able to continue their elementary education before venturing into the world of teenagers. It's detrimental to them in terms of being thrown into a world that they are not mature enough for at the age of 12 and 13. This is not responsible. Thank you.

I will be moving both of my children to the public school board if this goes through. Extremely disappointed in the Catholic board for even considering this.

As a grandfather to 3 fantastic grandchildren in the Durham School board I am completely opposed to this, totally cost saving approach, unethical proposal by the DCDSB. Find other ways that show concern for the well being of young children within the school system.

Being in grade 7 & 8 is hard enough without adding the extra pressure or burden to them. This is a crucial age where they are extremely impressionable nevermind mixing them into a high school setting where they will be exposed to a world far above them. At this age they are starting to come into their own, learning how to properly handle lifes disappointments, friendships etc. , To thrust them into a setting with grades far above them would be detrimental...I do however believe in jr high schools with grades 7 & 8...but not high school...far too early!!!!!!
