We do not feel this change is a good idea at all. We would definitely think about changing school boards if this does go through. Grade 7&8 are a critical confidence boost years for these kids to be positive role models for the rest of the school before they move to a High School where they are learning to find them self again. Please listen to what we have to say! Thank you.

Even though my girls are not with the Catholic board, I'm signing this in support of my friends who have children in that board. I'm concerned and worried for them. As well, if this does go through, what's stopping the public board from doing the same thing? This is by far the stupidest and most outrageous thing a school board in Ontario has proposed.

Even if schools are starting to go this route and if there are success stories, I still agree they are too young and should be able to graduate their elementary school as well as earning their role as leaders.
I will also consider transferring my 3 kids to the DDSB.

We will definitely be looking into switching our daughter to the public school system should this change occur. We do NOT agree with sending our daughter to a high school for grade 7/8.

Keep elementary schools JK to Grade 8. Grade 7 and 8 students are too young emotionally and physically to be placed with highschool students. Bulking them all together can lead to risks with safety, peer pressure, bullying, issues around sexuality, etc.

I'd also like to add that during this meeting, the option of having the alternative education students integrated into the building (which would save the board money by not continuing to lease space), was quickly disregarded as 'students and teachers felt that this option would not work for them'. Ahem. I think this option needs to be looked into further.

Our family will be relocating to Whitby in the spring and should the DCSB proceed with moving the grade 7&8 students to high school I will not enroll my three children at the catholic elementary school in the neighbourhood. Any financial support will also be redirected to the public school board.
We as a catholic faith pride ourselves on always doing the right thing especially when it comes to the best interest of others. I fail to see how this decision falls in line with the Catholic teachings. This is certainly not what is best for the children.
To all those with the power to affect this decision please let your moral compass guide you and ask yourself is this initiative self-serving or serving of others?

This is a very disappointing situation as it very much looks as though the board is pushing this option at parents as the only way to go. The truth is it is not the only way to go. There is time to look at all the situations causing declining enrollment in the first place at both elementary and secondary education. When we declare valuing our Catholic Education system we should not be devaluing the parents and.families who send their children there. This option

We are very seriously considering moving our children and taxes to the public school system

My child is in grade 7 currently at a Catholic school. If they decide to change the 7-12 I will be moving her to the public board. The biggest reason being convience and after school activities. Her schedule does not allow for a long bus ride

As a parent directly affected by this decision, I will withdraw both my children from the Catholic Board should they move forward with the 7/8 student transfer to high school in 2017.
