Help stop the DCDSB from moving our grade 7-8 Students to High School

Unfortunate they don't have the proper separation to make a safe place for the middle schoolers they can get along in the washrooms and olders! Make a proper middle school!

Absolutely ridiculous.

I support having a catholic high school in Brooklin

I am completely against this decision. If the DDCSB moves ahead with this arrangement my wife and I will not be enrolling our three children in the catholic school when we move to Whitby in the spring. We will also move our financial contributions to the public board. Children are only young and innocnet for so long. Such a shame that a 12 year will have a greater opportunity to be exposed to the same pressures as an 18 year old.

Give our children the chance to grow and be children. I can't believe this is even being discussed. My children are young but I can't fathom being faced with putting them in an environment that isn't safe for them to negotiate because they don't yet possess the awareness, knowledge, or social skills to navigate the type of situations they would encounter on a daily basis!

Kids have a hard enough time adjusting to puberty. We should throw them in highschool when they are not ready.

Way to early for high school

I think it is absolutely disgusting that this may be happening. Children from grades 7-8 DO NOT need to be going to high school when they are NOT ready to be going. The school board originally made these transitions separately for a reason and it should stay that way. Teachers barely teach children what life is going to be like after high school let alone teaching children what life will be like in high school. Teachers are not preparing students who are at the age of 12 to be going to high school with children older this. There are multiple things that happen in high school that elementary students shouldn't be exposed to, such as smokers corner including cigarettes and drugs. The Bullying that happens in high school is unacceptable, how do you expect younger students who are being forced to go to high school at a young age are going to handle these stresses and problems that occur? What are the teachers teaching students now that will prepare them for this forceful move? The children's learning and well being is the number one importance, they need consistency and stability so they can learn and discover the person they want to be in a positive atmosphere. If this happens, the board will be forcing these young children to high school at an age they are unable to handle the stresses that come with it. I hope you re consider this decision and honestly consider all the parent's and the children who want the school system to stay how it is, grades 1-8 then high school grades 9-12.

Sending my daughter to high school in grade 7 is out of the question. If this is the option that is passed she will be transferring to the public board.

Strongly against this I do not want my 11-12 yr old mingled in with high school students.

Creates logistical problems in travel, after school activities and sports become an issue. How does my child get home? He won't be able to just walk. My wife and I would consider moving them into the public stream for grade 7 if thus happens.

My grandchildren attend St Bridget's so I am totally against sending grades 6 and 7 to any high school. I think the petition raises most parents concerns. I believe if the board goes through with this decision then the majority of students will transfer to the public sector.

I'm not interested in the change. My kids will be moved to the public school in the event this change is implemented.

Living in Brooklin my child would have to be bused every day to and from school as opposed to walking half a km. Why would I do this when there is a public school he can walk to? The DCDSB is going to hurt, not help enrollment!!

This is not right to push young kids into highschool with adult teenagers.

I also have the concern for the catholic school board because in my discussions with other parents they will just move their kids to the public school system. This will impact the student enrolment overall and a hit to the catholic community.

I am totally against this decision being FORCED on us and our children by the catholic board. The catholic board is forcing our young children to grow up too fast all because they messed up by not putting in a high school when the time needed it! Now they can't because they can't fill All Saints and they are losing our kids to the public high school. I like the idea of a Jr. High for the grade 7/8 or another idea of moving the Leo J. Austin students to the new all saints and extend the boundaries.
