Help Stop Child Labour in India
Child labour is a huge issue in many countries, especially in India. In India, there are over 10 million children engaged in work. In India, the Right to Education Act of 2009 only allows for schooling to be publicly funded until the child is fourteen years of age. Therefore, education is only publicly funded until the end of grade eight in India. This is an issue because many of these families in India can not afford to pay for their child's higher education. This lack of higher education can make it very difficult for these children to find a higher paying job to help sustain themselves and their families. In Canada, education is paid for by taxes until the child completes high school.
Our solution to help stop child labour is to introduce more access to education in India. This petition is towards starting a child tax benefit similar to the tax benefit in Canada. The Canada Child Benefit (CCB) is a tax-free monthly payment made to families in need, to help them with the cost of raising children that are under 18 years of age. The child tax benefit that we are proposing would supply families with children that are child labourers with a certain amount of money that is based off of the amount of income the family makes. (Though it only applies to the family if they enroll their child in school). Support our petition and help us stop Child labour in India
