I was a student from 08-2011 and Cindy Anderson was my teacher during that time. I specifically remember an assignment that she gave out and divided the class into groups. The topic? Should homeless/those living in poverty be sterilized. Argue for or against depending on what group you were assigned. This was an assignment given to prepare us for the "AP English Exam." HOW is that something that you feel is acceptable for 16/17 year olds to discuss is beyond me. Her classroom had frequent occurrences of students being made fun of or targeted for being different or expressing different opinions.

As yet another alumnus of Wylie ISD, I will verify that the allegations made are accurate with regard to my experience with Cindy Anderson. In the four years I spent at WHS, I can think of no other teacher as divisive as she. In addition to seeing her racist tendencies in the classroom, I saw bigotry in the form of religious discrimination. She would speak disparagingly of students regardless of whether they were in or out of the room, and utilized peer pressure to ensure that students were less inclined to challenge her. Being in her class felt more like being in church than a school, in the worst possible ways. I wish I had spoken up when I attended school, or in the years that immediately followed. However, the next best time to address Mrs. Anderson’s behavior is now.

Wylie staff and administration has done a terrible job at dealing with racism in its hallways, repercussions need to be made.

I’m a biracial Wylie High School alumni. My time at Wylie was tainted on a daily basis by racism displayed by administration, teachers, coaches, parents, and even other students. Our community needs changing, and eliminating teachers who preach racism may not be the final answer, but it’s a start. I pray Wylie ISD can make the right move in supporting their minority students and terminating Cindy Anderson

Anyone who has been in her class knows she singles out people for their differences in a divisive way. She does this under the guise of gaining perspective, but then adds her spin at the end of each discussion. Not just race either, as she often calls people out for having different religious backgrounds and makes that their identity in the classroom. It's shameful, and I'm ashamed I haven't done more in the last 15 years to demand a stop to it.

If Wylie ISD does not take the action to fire Mrs. Anderson, they will have effectively taken a racist stance by allowing this behavior to continue. The students of Wylie High need and deserve a teacher who will treat them with dignity and respect, not one who will discriminate against them on the basis of reilgion, gender, sexual orientation, or race. A good teacher realizes the impact they have on their students, and will lead by example. Mrs. Anderson has failed ber students in this regard, and will continue to fail her students if allowed to do so. As such, the only course of action that will help the students at Wylie High is the immediate termination of Mrs. Anderson.
