It is an act of sacrilege to remove black businesses - I dare say - in the guise of regeneration and/or gentrification. However, remember that Southwark has a large portfolio of high value properties and the buzz words are development and affordable housing!!!

This is an important cornerstone of the African and Caribbean community.

The market is a good place to be once a month people come from near and far to meet new friends and family and enjoy some of the speakers in an atmosphere that is very much will coming to both adults and children a like. The market is a place of great needs to the community near and far

I have shopped there & it is a needed incentive by the community, for the community & having a positive beneficial contribution to life.! What fair & good reason is there to justify it ceasing to exist?

The market is a good place for people to meet once a month.people come from near and far this occasion and will be missed if it is no longer available. In some cases this is the only time some of the people get to meet orther people and make new friends.

2 years ago there was nothing like Auntiie Jean's Afrikan Culture Market; now there are "culture markets" springing up across the UK. And management at Cossall Community Centre want to close it down? How crazy is that? The petty and racist attitudes of the management leadership is preventing true good business activity in the community; notwithstsnding the the value of having consistent monthly gatherings by and for people from Africa and the Caribbean offering culture, entertainment, media, and more, not available in the mainstream. In the 2nd decade of the 21st century why is a community centre management in the heart of a housing estate, with a prominent African and African Caribbean resident constituency, (who enjoy, and have no opposition to the event, by the way) afraid of Black people living their truth??!! Also, the centre had not been used for years and was practically derelict. It wasn't the management leadership that brought it back to life. It was local people taking action to have a space of their own. It's so sad that these politrickals have put themselves in the role of decision makers. Their racism is overtly subverting the Black community.

We need to keep Our Community Centre open for the sake of uplifting all the people who uses it

This is an essential community market providing a service for over thousand Africans each year and an initiative the council and the tenants associations should support.

Come on....this is far too important to lose through inertia.... I am sure over 1000 people have passed through its doors since inception... Stand Up for what will benefit Our Community I will definitely be sharing Anje 1 ❤

Sister Jean has put her heart and soul creating a space for black London so long may it continue

This market is essential for our community. It offers a service that is not available elsewhere; the service of entertainment, education, shopping and lots more for the whole family.
