As a live music promoter based in Cardiff, I have seen 1st the massive advantages of having a brilliant student media in Cardiff.
Having worked and partnered with Quench and Xpress to deliver many events including a one day microfestival.
Working with the teams of the Cardiff student media Jealous Lovers Club are able to help students find out about events across Cardiff and to find new exciting bands and artists playing Cardiff.
It would be a great shame to lose these services and to lose the work of the great dedicated teams.

Cardiff Student Media does not need a new person in charge who has no experience as Cardiff Student Media can handle it without them.

Bureaucracy is about to break down a well-oiled machine, and the Student Senate won't budge, just to save face. Why not leave the position open and put the VP Media's salary toward the CSM awards, or media training schemes?

This is what democracy looks like. The people who actually work in a place feel they've been treated badly, they group together and decide (reluctantly, it seems) to withdraw their labour so those with power over them have to listen. This should be supported, and the wishes of the team respected (or at least taken into account).

Changes like this aren't democratic their idiotic. Having an outsider rise to the seat of a media organisation like this is what causes most to collapse.

The people in Cardiff Student Media are the hardest working volunteers I have ever seen. As a former deputy station manager for Xpress radio I've seen people working for hours and hours on end to help each other, help the platform they are on, and help CSM as a whole. These are people that give up nights out, weekends, and on a fair few occasions sleep to make sure that they do the best they possibly can. Cardiff Student Media members hold themselves to a standard, and they do everything they can to make sure they meet it. It seems to be something that people completely take for granted - that the members of CSM are volunteers, giving up their own time for nothing but their love of print, audio, and visual media. Forcing a wrong change onto volunteers is a quick way of destroying CSM, and would undo all of the countless hours of work put into making it so great from all of the previous members. There is a reason that CSM has continued to work since the departure of the former VP for media and marketing, and that is because of the great management team already in place. There is a reason why they were chosen as exec in the first place - because they are right for the job. With the experience, first hand knowledge, and relationships with the members of CSM, they know what they are doing. Putting someone else in to try and takeover management seems pointless and extreme for no apparent reason, especially seeing as no one in the group seems to want the change.

Whilst I am not involved in any way in this issue, I follow CUTV and I fully empathise with their situation. Whilst there is a need for responsible management, these hard working volunteers need to have their perspectives taken into account and a change, so late in the day, which are likely to result in significant changes in practices and directions (possibly with a significant political bias) is unfair. I re-iterate, these are volunteers, not paid employees.
