My daughter has Cerebral Palsy and is cheering at Utley Middle School in Rockwall next year. The point of cheerleading is supposed to be bringing school spirit to peers. It needs to include anyone who can do this no matter their abilities.

Discrimination can't be tolerated. Part of the academic experience is being involved not all from books. She deserves some extra time to learn what she needs to know for tryouts. I have been blessed to be a part of the special needs division of All-Star cheer for almost a decade and I can assure the coach and school district that she will impact this activity beyond anything you can imagine! She will bring more heart, commitment and dedication than most "normal" athletes without complaining. Everyone will learn a thing or to from her I can guarantee you that; lessons that will last a lifetime. LET HER CHEER!!

It harms no one to make accomdations for this child to try out. It sets a terrible example for the entire student body when we dont include our children with special needs. Why couldn't she be allowed to dress out and participate? I just dont understand. This could be a great lesson in tolerance, acceptance, and not placing limits on anyones potential. Thank you, A mother of 3 girls

I have been involved with cheer my entire life, running an all star program for the last 12 years, and I am so sorry that you have to deal with a coach like this. They are giving cheer a bad name, this is not what we are supposed to represent. Best of luck.
