Having a special needs child on the team doesn't just benefit the special needs child. It benefits the TEAM. It builds teamwork, compassion and who knows...it could motivate one of the other kids to go into the medical field. To exclude special needs children by refusing to make minor accommodations you're teaching the other children that a person isn't good enough unless they're fully able. You'll also have robbed them of the experience of gaining skills to work with someone a little different. Those skills can be used in the future, as adult.

Any child with special needs SHOULD get the assistance that they deserve. CMS would be better for it. It's ridiculous that the cheer sponsor doesn't want to help your daughter succeed. It's not like 12 girls are asking for assistance. The cheer sponsor should have some compassion, I'm sure if it was her child she would fight for the same assistance.

As a former Coyle Middle School student I cannot say I am surprised by this but it is ridiculous and accommodations should be made.

I hope she gets the opportunity not only in middle school but when she moves on the high school as well. Cheer has been the best experience of my life, and she deserves that same feeling.
