Every parent thrives for their child/children to be a part in some type of school activity, especially when they reach high school years. EVERY child is different and has different interests. So Maddie's interest is cheer, which she has done on the competitive end for 10 years. Now she's a teenager but all bcuz she is special needs/Down syndrome, she isn't allowed to be a part of that for school..??? Hmm...school policy.. how about focusing more on bullying, loving students through difficult times rather than NOT ALLOWING her to even have the chance or option to do what she wishes she could.
I compare that to almost being racist. In this world today our color, where we are from is not to be considered for a job nor for school activities. So, look at this deeper and how is this school and other schools setting an example of "EQUALITY" to students, parents and families.

Kids should be free to play no matter if they have limitations or not. If they try and participate like a team player then Give her a shot.

Do the right thing. Allow this child an equal opportunity to reach her goals by giving her a fair chance. Allowing her extra time to learn a routine is an extremely reasonable expectation. She will add value to the team in so many ways.
