This is not that difficult. In my view we have a man who obeys the law, is not a drunk, nor a drug user or pusher. He respects the land and tries to beautify it at his own expense. He has paid his bills even though he was late in the
past. The man has over 1,000 people attesting to his character. Let's do the right thing here. What are we thinking?
The man is older and has no place to go. Let the man stay for 5 years then reevaluate, and for what... 5 parking spaces? Since when are parking spaces more important than people? Do the right thing.

Leave the man alone! Extend his lease for 5 years while you look into whether or not the parking lot is environmentally friendly. Listen to your tax paying voters! This will not bode well for the presently elected, if this man is put on the street!

I am a lifelong resident of Plymouth, as is John. I have known him for over 30 years! He is one of a kind, the best kind! He is one of the hardest working people I know, usually putting others, even strangers before himself ~ always has, always will. He is not one to ask for anything, but does so much for so many.
His life on the beach is simple~ there are no " town services " no water, no streetlights, no plows, just his home, which he has lived in for over 25 yrs! He has cared deeply for this beach, planting trees, grasses, and beach roses to help protect this fragile place we all love.
Please, rethink your decision and allow him to stay. Let's get this one right!

25 years of living on the beach and the Town of Plymouth wants to give him the boot now??? WTF!!! Please, please, please let John remain in his home. He adopted a dog from us (Duxbury Animal Shelter) 5 years ago. WHERE is he going to go with that behemoth of a dog with him? No easy task finding a home to rent with big Zeus by his side. We have all had our struggles in the past bunch of years. Please don't add insult to injury by making John and Zeus homeless. He is current on his taxes. Give it a rest and don't be such dicks. Let him continue to live in his home. Thank you!!

John is a beloved, lifelong resident, and a good, hardworking decent man. He's current on his lease. This is his home. Anyone of us, at any given time can find ourselves in a difficult situation due to life's unexpected twists and turns. Let him stay! Town officials truly have the ability to make the right decision here, morally, do it. This isn't who we are as people. Be kind, be compassionate, make the right choice. Please leave him be.

I am so disappointed with the Town. We're supposed to be "Americas hometown" but yet the Town wants to take a home from an American?? How can John call Plymouth his hometown with this action?! Do the right thing Selectmen!!

Just learned of this petition and want to support it wholeheartedly. As a longtime friend I am naturally biased, but if Scag has been paid up since 2014 including interest and penalties, and continues to meet his obligations, there is no justification for deleting the lease renewal option and demanding that he vacate the property. Scag if anyone deserves another chance to remain in the place he has called home for 25 years. It is no less than any community rightly does to help each other through difficult times, just as the federal government did for millions of homeowners and corporations during the recession. As a former Selectman and town planner, I don't find the idea of using this property for a few parking spaces and a ferry landing the least bit compelling, much less a justification for what amounts to a taking of private property (the house) without compensation. The Selectmen have other options for preserving the Town's interests, such as a buyout (which the Town does routinely for conservation land), or a long-term lease or lifetime lease, with conditions regarding use and maintenance. Judging by the 1300-plus signatures on this petition drive, we believe the Town of Plymouth and Plymouth's Long Beach are much better served in the long term by having Scag living there as its unofficial caretaker than we are by kicking him off. And I am certain those supporters will follow through to help make that solution work. I urge the Selectmen to reconsider their decision and work with John to resolve this dispute; for his sake, yes, but also for the community.

If the town were to tear down every home that its owners were at one time delinquent in taxes and replace it with a parking lot, there would be an awful lot of pavement in Plymouth...
Please consider extending John Scag's lease.

This is town politics at its worst.
Let John stay in his home.
