I have twins that will be attending starting in August. That’s over $5,000 for kindergarten?!

With the amount of taxes we pay in DG, we should be able to allocate them to funding full day K at little to no cost for EVERYONE in our district. I have a graduating kindergartener in a few weeks enrolled in OKEEP and while I appreciate all the teachers and staff do, $2500 is cost prohibitive for many families.

As a fellow teacher , I know the importance and necessity of a full day kindergarten program. District 58 is behind the times and really should have this. Lombard has had full day kindergarten for years and they are among the highest scoring districts in DuPage and other surrounding school districts.

Even though full day is “optional”, it has been proven that students who attend full day fare better. Thus parents are “forced” to enroll their children in O’Keep even though they may not be able to afford it or run the risk of their child starting first grade at a disadvantage.

It seems with all we pay in taxes that full day Kindergarten should not be an additional cost to families.

Children that attend full day kindergarten are shown to have a better ability to learn and progress than those attending half day kindergarten.

I pay over 13,000.00 in taxes yearly. Considering the tax rate, it seems full day kindergarten should be paid through taxes as is done in surrounding communities.

In light of education changes, and new standards, this needs to change so we are meeting the needs of all students, not just the few.

This is a necessity with the requirements and pace of learning these days. Our kids deserve this advantage.
