Help fight the war against head lice in Volusia county schools

I dislike how the school is allowing lice to be spread around they should go home like other schools send them

my daughter goes to port orange elementary...she has had it 4 times...this is ridiculous..i will do everything to get this changed...

It's costs over $100 to treat a house hold of 3 people. including water electric the lice treatment then plus a whole day of washing drying and cleaning your home from top to bottom. last year when my son started school at IRES i spent hours and days on the phone with the school board for them to tell me yes my child will b sent back to class if lice is found in his hair. I'm one pissed off mama at the school board of Volusia County and if I could re sign this over and over I would.

I've been a hairdresser for 28 years it is unfathomable to me that children can go to school with head lice. it will create an epidemic.head

I think it is ridiculous that you would not send a child home that has lice.It is contagious and spreads and is not fair for us parents or the children to have to deal with this. Lice costs a lot of money to treat and not to mention the products that work are some what harmful to people. Why would anyone pass a rule stating they should not be sent home with something that effects everyone!! When a child gets lice at school they dont even clean or treat with the proper products to prevent the spread of it.If it is contagious no child should have to be subject to possibly catching that . Sending a child home is no guarentee that you won't get lice but it's is a pretty good way to start to prevent a class of infested children.

It is terrible. They dont treat their rooms when the children get it. They let the children stay in class and continue to do all activities the others do. Its a never ending battle once you get it. The products they have you use is not safe to use over and over again, but if our schools just allow the kids to stay in school with a head full of bugs, at some point it becomes a health hazzard. Now because you they dont want to send the kid home, I have to worry about my childs health. If its contagious, then they need to be sent home. I dont care if it is just a bug!!!

As a hairstylist I am not aloud to work on a client with head lice, so why are they aloud to be in school.

as a mother and a grandmother , the school should notifey the parents if lice is found in the class room of your child. so they can keep a close eye of there children to help keep down any festations. and maybe the schools should provide treatments because it is very costly and alot of parents just cant afford that extra cost, they may cut the childs hair and send them back to school but you have to treat the whole house.

I agree that they should send a child home with head lice and also notify the other parents so they can check their children to keep it from spreading. This new policy has cost me do much money and pay I miss out on from my job to deal with getting rid of the lice.
