Children with lice need to be sent home and their heads treated before returning back to school.

I feel parents should be notified if a child in the same room as your child has lice! I dealt with this last year in my sons kindergaerten class.

I understand both sides. I don't want my son catching head lice from the other kids at school, but also I understand how it would be difficult for some patents to take the time off work or find someone to watch the kid while the patent is at work, especially in a single parent home.

They say that lice is not a medical emergency. However it is a huge financial issue. if my children were to bring home lice, I get it, I cannot go to work. I mean, would you want a waitress/bartender with lice handling your food or drink????

I feel if the the parents don't notice it and the school system does that child needs to be removed right away to stop the spread to the whole school. this can become a financial burden on some families with multiple people. we stress hand washing and stopping the spread of germs. this should be treated the same.

A simple letter sent home with the children stating that there is lice in the school would be helpful. No blame, no naming the child. Just prevention.

We allow children in school with lice so we don't hiet their feelings....what about the children they give it to and their feelings? Stop allowing children in the classroom until they are nit free!

I went through this with my son a few years ago and then he gave it to me! I had to spend lots of money to get rid of it for BOTH of us and to clean and sanitize my whole house! It is hard financially and I am a single parent and do not want to go through this again! This policy needs to remain strict! I also have issues with the "non-transportation" of these kids and saftey issues (my kids have to ride their bike) and the teachers now expecting every parent to have computers, ink copy paper etc. It's getting out of control! I contacted Volusia County Schools and they don't seem to care. Please parents, together maybe we will be heard!

Please stop allowing Volusia families to suffer the burden of head lice to spare other's feelings. If a child has head lice, they should be kept home until they are clear.

From what I understand, Flagler county stuck with the original policy and they have much fewer incidents of lice. Children with lice should be sent home immediately and not allowed to return until all signs of lice including nits are gone.

Kids should not be back in school until they are completely free of lice, nits and all!
