Transgender and transsexualism is not a plead for help, and ignoring it can have a huge detrimental effect on your child. Please, for the love of them, respect their use of pronouns and maybe check out PFLAG or another LGBT+ Oriented group for parents!

I'm nonbinary, and my family doesn't understand it because i dont care how i dress or what pronouns people use. I hope that this will help you. Lots of love ~T

Hey Damon's family, you're never too young to know who you are. Let him be who he is. His life will be a hundred times better for being able to be true to himself.

Don't be your child's first bully. Better a live and happy son than an emotionally traumatized and at risk of suicide daughter.

I am a fellow Trans man and I can promise that it's not a phase. I've been out since 7th grade. And I'm graduating next year

Hi Damon's dad - I am a licensed professional counselor and a doctoral candidate in clinical psychology. When our children are still young in our eyes, it is easy to believe that maybe they aren't ready for choices that will change so much in their life. But I can confidently say that Damon's desire to transition is justified and logical. In fact, Damon is at the perfect age to come to this conclusion since he is in the peak of his identity development. Anyone in the mental health field will tell you that adolescents benefit most from support from their family. This overwhelmingly includes transgender youth. I can also validate that this is a really hard transition for you. I hope you can find the support you need to work through this - it can be shocking initially. But I can assure you that Damon's statement of identity and his exploration of it is completely healthy. I encourage you to find out all you can. Respecting Damon's new name and pronouns are a big first step towards supporting him. I wish you and the rest of your family the best. Thank you.
