I can't believe you were denied the ability to start this club! I was in French club, chess club, literary magazine & never had to get a petition going for that so even though I'm outraged, I'm happy to sign & sharing this petition!!

I have dealt with homophobic staff myself and think this will be a way to open up their minds. I also think this would be a good, safe place for kids who don't have support st home.

I hope at least one of the CCA administrators reads this. Please understand that preventing this club from forming isn't "technically illegal." It is "obviously illegal" and lawyers from Lambda Legal and the ACLU are going to be in your face really, really quickly if you continue on this course. I don't mean that as a threat, it's simply how this thing will go. I know from experience because that's exactly how it went down at the high school where I teach (a couple of years ago).
1. The principal didn't want a Gay Straight Alliance.
2. The student pushing to form a GSA contacted both Lambda Legal and the ACLU.
3. Both organizations sent letters to the principal informing him that barring a GSA from forming was a clear violation of the law.
4. The GSA was allowed to form.

Under President Obama, we were able to work together and make great strides in the cause of LGBTQ+ rights. Now, however, it's up to us, since we no longer have significant support from Washington. Let's do it together.
