Plea for Boston University: Give Honor Student Georgia Dray Honorary Degree After Tragic Suicide

Please remember, honor and support Georgia. Terrier families care!

So many colleges and universities honor students lost, even ones who haven’t finished all credits at the time of their passing and even ones lost to suicide. My older one’s college, Bowdoin College, honored them beautifully during graduation and awarded the diplomas to the families after the President of the university spoke eloquently about each deceased student. This is the least we can do for Georgia.

Please do this for this family! Honor this heroic young woman who did her best to battle to conquer brutal her mental health issues. There are ways to do this with sensitivity and to comfort those who lost Georgia, honor her memory, and raise awareness about mental health and suicide. Also, how is this true, that 988 is not widely available and discussed on campus.

I was Georgia’s 7th grade Social Studies teacher, and while many years have passed since I last spoke with Georgia, the positive impact that she had on my life remains. Georgia was such a beautiful, gentle soul who always had words of kindness and support for others, despite her own private struggles. Please send the message to past, present, and future BU students that they are part of a community who will support and uplift them. We all want to matter; Georgia mattered to a lot of people, and you have the opportunity now to honor her life and her legacy.

When a gesture acknowledging a student doesn't cost a thing, yet means rhe world to her family. Make it right.

I was Georgia's Spanish tutor during her last year of school. She was an excellent student who loved to learn, and she deserves this.

Georgia and her family deserve this so much. Georgia impacted so many people in such a positive way.
