Help Avoid Mental Health Stigmas
Mental health is something that should never be taken lightly and there are several reasons for that. According to the National Comorbidity Survey, a huge 50% of people reported having at least one lifetime long disorder, while 30% of people have an illness that has lasted for 12 months (Kessler et al., 1994). With mental health prevalence on the rise, there has unfortunately been a negative stigma attached to it. Often times when people hear “mental health disorder”, they automatically assume suicidal depression or psychopaths. I believe that this stigma is an issue can easily be resolved given that people are open to educating themselves about the most prevalent disorders and willing to learn how to help one cope with an illness. I believe that in order to lessen the stigma, we need to do a better job at educating people on the issue. By signing this petition, you are agreeing to help spread the word of the severity of mental health illnesses whenever you can!
