This is a clear human rights violation, to institutionalise a young man and drug him into compliance, just so as to be able to avoid questioning inadaquate community care supports - it is not even about saving money, the institutional care forced onto this young man is very expensive, it is about an ideological shift away from a respect for the rights, dignity and worth of each individual, towards one where disabled people are simply seen as problems

I am absolutely appalled by the violation of this young man's human rights. Please start treating Anthony with the respect, dignity and kindness. He is a human being.

This is inhuman treatment. I think this is all about money going into private companies coffers to reap the profits. I wish him success in his appeal.

Gagging Anthony so he cannot communicate his pain, distress and vehement disagreement with the unacceptable and torturous treatment he is being forced to receive at Redwood, coupled with the denial of his chosen gluten-free & dairy free diet, is utterly cruel and must not be allowed to continue for a second longer! You would not force a vegetarian to eat meat or a Muslim to eat pork ; why is Anthony being forced to eat food he chooses not to eat, especially when the gluten-free, non-dairy diet is for health reasons. Deliberately making him suffer ill-health is totally unacceptable & grossly abusive! He must be allowed access to his preferred means of communication and to be given the food he needs to be healthy & well and be returned to his own home, where he can be safe & well and once more enjoy the liberty and independence he enjoyed prior to being removed to the brutal prison that is Redwood! Removing Anthony’s ability to communicate with the help of his 'Lightwriter', using the astonishing excuse that Anthony does not look at the keyboard when typing and therefore his communication with it cannot be counted as valid is an insult not just to Anthony, who has obviously used a Lightwriter long enough to be able to use it in a way equivalent to being able to touch type, it is an insult to everyone who has ever touch typed but more than that, it is tantamount to criminal and gross brutality towards a young man being made vulnerable through the abuse of power over him at Redwood! I ask all concerned to assist Anthony Kletzander in escaping this living nightmare that he is going through and to look into who else is being abused & silenced at Redwood and other similar institutions. If we who see the abuse do nothing to prevent it and bring the perpetrators to book too, then we are just as culpable!

Dr Corrine Pearson, clinical Director at Redwood is in breach of The United Nations Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities.

It sounds like the cara package was to expensive for the orgonisation who took over responsibilities for Anthony's care. so were are his human rights.

Denying disabled people their human rights is illegal and disgusting.

This is an appalling situation that must not be allowed to continue. It sounds as though all of Anthony's rights have been contravened........how has this been allowed to happen and how can it be put right?

I'm appalled. Many of the people who were admitted to Winterbournew View and other A&TU's can tell similar stories. Understanding those who are a challenge to support requires skilled staff. Trying to reduce cost actually increases cost.

I wish Anthony well and hope he gets a service that will help his independence. Why is this not highlighted in Ireland?

No decisions about us without us. This is disgusting abuse of a vulnerable person. Why are we going backwards in the way we treat the vulnerable? You MAKE him more vulnerable. Stop this now.

This looks like institutional abuse. Anthony was already living independently. Why has this been taken away? The right to independent living - so hard fought for and achieved by disabled people and our allies - is being whittled away by cost-cutting 'professionals' who are still stuck in the medical model of disability.
