This is nothing less than barbaric. My son is 11 and doesn't communicate at all. What is his fate if this is the fate of Anthony? Give this young man his freedom and basic human rights back! Who are the authorities to treat people like this?

I wholly support this young person's right to live independently. To withhold this against his will and those of his parents is totally unacceptable.

I am sick and tired of 'state' agencies controlling lives. This young man is entitled to have the life he wishes for himself.

People with autism deserve independence and shouldn't be institutionalised against their will. Free Anthony, Claire Dyer and all the others.

Tragic that people in these roles can be so narrow minded and abusive and so completely unable to see how wrong their actions are.

For goodness sake, let Anthony have his independence.

I signed the ENIL petition in December 2013 and was hoping that the organisations who are supposed to support Anthony would have taken action by now to make sure that Anthony is supported to live the live that he wants and makes him confident and happy. It is horrific that in a so called civilised country a person's rights are violated in this way and for such a long time. Please come to sense!!.

We MUST presume competence and stand up for those who have no support for their voices.

This is a shocking human rights violation and must be rectified immediately

Anthony can't speak for himself so we should speak for him. Do not treat him like a criminal,he doesn't deserve to be locked up.

As a parent of a non-verbal child with autism, this story chills me. Anthony's human rights are being violated by ignorant 'professionals' listen to him. listen to his family

That Anthony should be treated this way is atrocious, and his independence must be restored as soon as possible.

What a horrifying story. My thoughts are with him and his family.

There are none so blind as those who do not wish to see. It is shocking to think that because someone does not speak it is concluded that they have nothing to say.

Redwood talk about "validity". How valid can an assessment be if it is carried out by professionals working in an environment that seems to have very little understanding of autistic behaviours and traits. Where is the "person-centred" in this situation, and where has common-sense, humanity, kindness and justice gone too? Simply appalling and sad beyond words.
