as of now, Hedgehogs are illegal in the state of California, according to hedgehogcentral.com the law is as followed: "Hedgehogs are illegal in the entire state of California. California has a law that deems all animals not specifically listed as legal under State law as being illegal by default. Until such time as California's Department of Fish and Game is willing to consider hedgehogs for legal status, they will continue to be considered contraband pets and may be confiscated and either moved out of state or destroyed".

It has been a dream for the past three years for my sister and I to be able to purchase a hedgehog, and as of currently we are not able to do so without putting it's safety,veterinary needs, and needs ingeneral injeopardy. we arehoping this petition will help the Department of Fish And Game to consider beginning a legalization process so California is able to have these awesome little pets and be able to provide them with the proper love and care they need without having to worry about them being 'destroyed' or taken away from us. thank you so much!
