Hello Dean of Modern Languages at SMC,
We are writing to
express our interest in continued study of Hebrew at SMC. Unfortunately,
there are no classes offered after Hebrew 2. We have learned the basics
of grammar tenses in present, past, and future, and are hoping to
continue with Hebrew 8 (conversation) or Hebrew 3 to further enhance our
knowledge of the language. At this point, we are just starting to
become conversational and are disappointed to stop our efforts here!
Please
offer us a chance to expand our language ability with Hebrew 8 at SMC. After all, this is a location with plenty of Israelis
and Jewish culture, yet nothing beyond Hebrew 2 exists at any community college of the county. This is the perfect place to offer us our next challenge in Hebrew
language development as there are a great number of us eager to learn. We would like to continue our work with Professor Fern Margolis, whom has been with us for Hebrew 1 and 2 and has attracted our following.
As a pastor and homiletic professor of a small seminary (International Reformed University and Seminary), I have always wanted to enhance my Hebrew language to better understand the Old Testament. I want to teach my students how to accurately interpret the Bible and relate to modern hearers. I truly enjoyed studying Hebrew with Dr. Fern Margolis at SMC because her love for the Hebrew language, experience and knowledge of the history of Israel greatly helped me. Although I've learned two semesters, I do not think it's enough. I highly recommend Hebrew language courses at SMC to my colleagues and friends around me. I am a product and proof of your department's effort.
