Hello Dean of Modern Languages at SMC,

We are writing to express our interest in continued study of Hebrew at SMC. Unfortunately, there are no classes offered after Hebrew 2. We have learned the basics of grammar tenses in present, past, and future, and are hoping to continue with Hebrew 8 (conversation) or Hebrew 3 to further enhance our knowledge of the language. At this point, we are just starting to become conversational and are disappointed to stop our efforts here!

Please offer us a chance to expand our language ability with Hebrew 8 at SMC. After all, this is a location with plenty of Israelis and Jewish culture, yet nothing beyond Hebrew 2 exists at any community college of the county. This is the perfect place to offer us our next challenge in Hebrew language development as there are a great number of us eager to learn. We would like to continue our work with Professor Fern Margolis, whom has been with us for Hebrew 1 and 2 and has attracted our following.

As a pastor and homiletic professor of a small seminary (International Reformed University and Seminary), I have always wanted to enhance my Hebrew language to better understand the Old Testament. I want to teach my students how to accurately interpret the Bible and relate to modern hearers. I truly enjoyed studying Hebrew with Dr. Fern Margolis at SMC because her love for the Hebrew language, experience and knowledge of the history of Israel greatly helped me. Although I've learned two semesters, I do not think it's enough. I highly recommend Hebrew language courses at SMC to my colleagues and friends around me. I am a product and proof of your department's effort.

I studied at SMC many languages, completed English 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, ESL 14B, 16A, 16C, German 1, 2, 3, 4, French 1, 2, 3, 4, Italian 1, 2, 3, Spanish 1, 2, 3, 8, 31, Japanese 1, Portuguese 1, Hebrew 1, and have been attending Hebrew 2 and Hebrew 99 classes. It would be great to have an opportunity to continue studying Hebrew at SMC either as Hebrew 8, or Hebrew 3. We have everything for this: willing and able students, the great professor with two doctorate degrees from UCLA - Dr. Fern Margolis. The only thing we need is to see that Hebrew continues on. Please add Hebrew 8 or Hebrew 3 to the Spring 2020 SMC schedule of classes.

This is only my second semester in Hebrew and I feel another semester would be really great to lock it in and get more practice with the language. There is no other community college that has upper level Hebrew courses.

Hebrew 2 is not enough and I want to continue learning how to be comfortable in carrying on conversations and writing in Hebrew. This class would make such a difference in my ability to continue on and solidify my understanding.

As an additional comment, I would just like to say that by adding Hebrew 8 particular, it will mean the difference for us between being merely "proficient" and being actually "fluent" in Hebrew. I hope you will see the value in this.

I also feel that Hebrew III will allow for more advanced and in depth study of the Hebrew language. There are many students who are interested in more advanced studies in Hebrew. Professor Fern Margolis is an excellent professor who is highly qualified with her two doctorate degrees.
