I would much rather a paramedic that was rested and alert to treat me than one that had literally worked til he dropped! they are hero's in many people's eyes, but are still human beings! He made the right decision in my opinion and shouldn't be punished

this paramedic was let down by his employers and the pressure of government targets. 11 hours without a break along with havinh to work over his 12 hour shift is not acceptable.

the HCPC totally got their decision wrong. they took no account to the fact that Mr Daly had worked 11 hours of his 12 hour shift without a break. had he been a HGV driver the police and the highways agency would be all over him like a rash.

Mr Daly should be commended not fired! If he had attended the call and the patient died due to fatigue induced mistakes there would be all hell to pay. Instead he did what he should do, and his reward - get fired! No wonder uk ambulance services are trying to poach employees from Australia, Canada etc, they cant retain the ones they have!

I am disgusted by this action, the views of the dispatcher and the HCPC should be ashamed of themselves.. To say our colleague didn't put "service users" first is disgraceful. According to their own Standards of behaviour codes and ethics bla bla, Paramedics have duty of care to those other paramedic who work along side or in a subordinate role, he did exactly this, he knew the care would be as efficient due to crew fatigue. This chap should be commended for supporting his staff unlike his seniors!!!

Absolutely discusting.......worked every second of everyday . Time to stop running crews without a break
I bet the controller's had not done 11 hrs without a break , they should hang there head in shame !!!

As health care professionals, we have to consider the underlying problem, not just the symptoms.
I'd like the see the HCPC spend 6 consecutive nights shifts fully alert and ready to provide professional care and advice.
There for the grace of God go all of us
Paramedics breaking point has been reached & breached. We are human beings & not robots. Show some common sense & reverse this disgraceful decision.
