Sign the petition today so we can deliver it to Delaware's General Assembly to encourage passage of this very important bill.
Under House Bill 275 (previously HB 157)sponsored by Rep. Longhurst and several legislators the Colonial School District would be required to return full and part-time teachers to the same teaching position that they held before taking their leave. The federal FMLA allows states to implement additional protections as each state sees fit.
The Family and Medical Leave Act requires that covered employees must grant an eligible employee up to 12 workweeks of unpaid leave during any 12-month period for the birth of a child, gaining a child through adoption or foster care, to care for an immediate family member with a serious health condition or to take medical leave when the employee is unable to work because of a serious health condition.
House Bill 157 was assigned to the House Education Committee.
We are approaching 250 signatures and need to hit this milestone before we head to the General Assembly. Text three people right now and get them to sign the petition. Post the link on your Facebook page to keep this momentum moving.

I am spending this week meeting with legislators to explain why returning to the same classroom is essential for teacher retention and student stability. Go to the House Education Committee website and send an email to every member listed there to demand they move this bill to a floor vote now.

I had to switch schools after my leave and it was so hard on my kids. No teacher should have to go through that.

Teachers deserve job security just like everyone else. This is common sense.

My kids love their teacher and it is so wrong that she might get pushed to a different grade level just for having a baby. Pass this bill now!
