I am an interventionist working in a NH middle school and I am currently working on my Orton Gillingham Certification. I would love to see NH students getting more structured support in reading.
I'm a parent and former teacher with a dyslexic son. It's important that this pass because students and teachers need as much support as they can get in the form of curriculum and training.
Our son's early teachers weren't sufficiently trained to screen for dyslexia, so they missed the signs. If they had been better trained and the interventions had been in place, our son would have been seen as a child with learning disabilities, not a behavior problem. He still bears the mental scars from that early time, thinking he's bad and dumb. We need to help all kids who struggle.

Teachers deserve better training and we need science based teaching practices in the classroom. We pay for a tutor to help out daughter in reading.
