As a structured literacy practitioner, I have witnessed high school students making several years worth of gains in 1-2 years of explicit systematic reading instruction. The research is in, if we know better we are compelled to do better. NH’s economic success depends on a literate populace.

I am an educator who is dealing with the fallout of these teaching practices being used for so many years. Unfortunately so many of our students are further behind than they need to be due to ineffective teaching methods being used. I hope that we can find a way to move forward with better knowledge. When we know better, we must do better.
