We should be taxed based on what we originally paid for the home, not what someone is willing to pay.

The system is antiquated and leaves too much power to the appraisal board.
They create high appraisals and then settle for whatever they can get.

Retired and 72 years old. Appraisal for a 20 year old mobile home went from 67K to 130K this year. No land! I realize this is not as costly as it is for most people around D.S. but still absurd.

Please return appraisal to original amount, new appraisal is from inflation and unjust to those residents who have already been here.

The property taxes should be based on purchase value not appraised value. Otherwise people who had their hike for years will be forced out.

My Wimberley home’s appraised value increased over 45% this year, but fortunately(?) the homestead exemption capped the assessment increase at 10%. I suppose that’s a good thing, but it also means that I can count on my property assessment increasing by 10% every year for the rest of my life…or until taxes force me to sell. High property taxes also lower the value of my home because it shrinks the number of potential buyers who can afford to pay those taxes.
The Biden administration was recently (and correctly) criticized for proposing a tax on unrealized stock and bond market gains for wealthy households. Taxing property owners on the appraised value of their homes is the same thing and should be illegal under the Takings Clause of the Fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution: “Nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.” I can think of no legal or moral argument that would allow any government to arbitrarily tax me on the unrealized value of my property.
