our land value went up this year excessively. It's ridiculous.

The appraisal for my home is absurd. This will greatly affect my family as we will stretch our budget in order to cover taxes.

The county is about to make it where retirees can't afford to stay in their homes.

I’m a widow on a very fixed income and have no extra funding for a tax increase. I’ve lived in my house 29 years, and no additions or improvements have been made. I just maintain my property the best that I can. The homes in my neighborhood are over appraised to say the least, including mine. This neighborhood is not ritzy by any means and many properties are not well kept which “decreases” property values. Please give us a break, especially those of us over 65 and on a limited income!

Hays County leaders want to complain about the "lack of affordable housing" for political gain, which gouging the people who already live here but can no longer afford to stay. Fix it - and make housing here affordable for all of us!

65 and on a fixed income. Property taxes are causing people to not be able to stay in their homes they have already completed payments to own.

Is it your intention to run older folks on fixed incomes out of here? It sure does appear so. This tax gouging is unsustainable to many who have lived here for decades, paying taxes in good faith, and now this. This is beyond shameful!

Hello all. This tax appraisal stuff runs deeper than most realize. I am a former employee of the Hays Central Appraisal district. Some of the things I have seen and heard in that building are horrendous. When I worked there, we were instructed to tell incoming callers that the appraisers were not there/unavailable even if they were. Sometimes the appraisers will present a taxpayer $X value, then if the taxpayer protested, they would say something along the lines of We can lower the value by $X;. The question is, if it was always able to be lowered $X how do we know the appraisers are honest about the values in the first place? I even heard an appraiser tell a taxpayer to their face values do not have to be fair. One of the worst things that happened was when I was reprimanded for NOT withholding public information from a taxpayer that was asking me questions. I do not think these people are honest at all. If you go to google reviews and look up the Hays Central Appraisal district. You will see a 5 star review left by Renee Harkey. SHE WORKS THERE. But it's okay I guess. They like to go out and have drinks together after certifying the roll. Maybe they think it's funny, I don't know. We as citizens need to do something about this, even if we find a way to correct the problems with the appraisal district what is to keep the taxing entities from jacking up rates anyway?

The current tax rate in Belterra is already excessively high, and my taxes will be going up by $6000 if nothing is done. This is unacceptable!

How are older residents supposed to afford these large yearly increases in their property taxes? With appraisal values skyrocketing (over 50%!), Travis county must reduce the tax rates as well as the appraised values of homes. The county is getting a windfall of money!

People on a fixed income are being taxed out of their homes. People have been paying taxes for decades and can no longer stay in their homes. What are we getting for all this extra money? NOT breathing easy in Buda.
