Tax valuations and Taxes have become usurious to property owners in Texas. Tax rates should be adjusted to encompass an effective adjusted rate which does provide undue an burden on property owners. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.

Something has to be done. The property taxes massive assessment and increases are destroying people’s ability to stay in the area they have lived in from as little as 2 or 3 years up to a lifetime.

We can no longer allow the influx of new residents or businesses to artificially drive the assessed valuation of property in high growth counties in Texas. The value of a property to any property owner is no higher or lower than the value they paid for the property, until the time they choose to sell it. The revenues derived from assessed property valuations and applicable tax rates are intended to support the financial operating needs of county, municipality, utility and ISD’s. However, these artificial and sometimes arbitrary valuations are causing major shifts in socioeconomic redistribution. It is happening both on a micro and macro level, intra and interstate basis.

Home values are only accurate when the home is sold. Until that time they are purely theoretical. For the county to collect hard currency from a valuation that may never benefit the home owner is unethical. I fully support this petition.

I’m for setting a cap based on purchase price however that data is currently not public so need to understand how that will be determined.
