As stated in the petition, the significant growth in the assessed value puts a financial burden on long time residents as keeping up with the increased property taxes is not making it viable for most of us to still live in this county.

Agree. As retirees we are being priced out of the home we bought in the mid 90s. This is where we planned to retire but that is looking less likely. As long time residents we are seeing no more benefits from the higher taxes driven by the skyrocketing property values. The developers of the new high-end subdivisions that are fueling the growth should be contributing more to cover the creation and/or expansions needed for the school districts. There needs to be change.

We can no longer afford to stay in our home as we moved here to retire in December 2019. We are no tax burden to this community as we don’t use the schools and are disheartened that our very simple home that we built is now unaffordable for us to stay in. Shame on Hays County and Texas.

I have my 90 year old Mom with me and can’t work 40 hours a week , because I have to take care of her, I really don’t know how I will be able to come up with this year Taxes it keeps going up , I have not done any updates to it and don’t understand how it just keeps going up, my land double and my property went up too.

The increase of valuation on our home is not right. The county valuation should not reflect what our home could sale for when market demands causes an increase. We had a home built that reflected our budget. This budget included the amount of taxes required. We would never build a home this expensive because we could not afford the taxes on said home.

I totally agree that property taxes should be based on selling price not on perceived equity (which is a made-up number with no basis in fact). The county has done very little improvements to justify these kinds of across- the board property increases. Also people on fixed incomes or disabled should be allowed higher exemptions to insulate them from these kind of explosive increases.

I agree 100% as I find myself trying to retire in an old homestead on 9 acres with a wood burning stove at age 65. I have neighbors in similar position, We are just trying to pay our bills and honor each new sunrise.
