Everything is linked to our Harvard emails, ranging from academic to business uses. Please note that it is really important for us to keep that email address valid. Thank you.

Extremely disappointing. I hope that this will be reconsidered.

This is a complete about-face of information we have been told throughout the academic year. Certainly a university of Harvard's (not just HGSE's) size, stature, and influence can negotiate a way for our emails to persist.

In the past as Harvard has transitioned IT policies they have applied the policy only to new individuals. Is there a reason there was no transition policy for this decision?

I was told by your staff that I would be able to retain this email address, so I have linked all of my credentials to it. Please help us maintain our sanity.

My previous university allows us lifetime use of its e-mail account. Why couldn't Harvard? We were told that we could keep this email address for life.

I thought that I would have this email for life. I have all my cards with this email address and it is one of the reasons that I shelled out $65k for one year of education... please let us keep our Harvard email addresses!

To echo what has been said, this new policy came with surprise and disappointment. There was an understanding that our email addresses would remain active after graduation. If I had know that was not the case, I would not have used my Harvard account as extensively as I have (for job searches, networking, saving important documents to Google Drive, etc.). The timing of this policy is unreasonable and unfair to graduating students.

Last year, IT emailed graduating students with this: "Your mail.harvard.edu email address will remain active. You do not need to archive email or prepare to close the account. [...] Presently there are no plans to deactivate this mail account; however, if that status were to change, you will be given advance notice and adequate time with multiple reminders, etc" I fail to see how this missive from Mr. Oatman constitutes advance notice and adequate time.

if I use my harvard email to sign this petition, will it still count? ...
This was explicitly promised to us and is the least we can retain given the cost of attending HGSE and it's relatively modest aid budget compared to sister schools at Harvard.

We should be able to inherit our Harvard e-mails and not have to forfeit them post graduation.

I am really disappointed by this decision. Even second and third tier universities offer students lifelong email access. Move with the times.
