Harsher punishment for ALL crimes. Giving criminals a slap on the wrist and turning them loose gives them the idea that they can continue doing this and not be punished.

after being a victim of a car robbery and he only got 2 1/2 yrs which to me is not enough I am tired of seeing people get robbed

These car thieves will not stop until they are made to stop. Our law enforcement officers are already short handed and to make them apprehend the same crooks over and over is ridiculous. My friend was in an accident yesterday with a car thief running from the cops. This puts everyone in danger. People work for hours, days, years to pay off their vehicles just to have them stolen. We need harsher punishments.

Out of control!!! For far too long. Never seen anything like it. Our Neighborhood Watch self patrols and we, quite literally, watch the entire process. The other night, five feet from my front door...took the guy less than 2 minutes to make entry and exit the driveway. APD responded quickly. They spotted the car passing them and attempted to stop but they sped away, of course. This is epidemic...an occurrence nearly every night at this property and I know it's like that everywhere. Harsher punishment and penalties for these offenders. More bait programs. And for Pete's sake....make the ones that are caught pay for their crime. My car has been stolen twice in two years. Alarms...cameras...it doesn't matter. Here's a picture of the guy driving off with my car. Oh well. The first time, APD witnessed erratic driving and the trunk bouncing up and down. They refused to pull over. Dead ended in a hotel parking lot and four of them took off on foot. I was given the option of going to the location too pick it up. It was filled with drug paraphernalia, stolen clothing, equipment, two women's purses and tons of different people's mail. It was disgusting and my car was ruined. Paid a fortune to have it fixed and moved to a gated complex and the same thing happened all over again. Second time it ended in a crash and was just dumped. Officers didn't try and chase them on foot and why would they? It's pointless. I even had a positive I.D. of the driver that actually stole my car...nobody cares. I personally had to return all the stolen things. I witnessed my neighbors Suburban being broken into. Saw the two people and the car that the thief got out of...reported descriptor and plate. Found out they actually live in the next building over. I called and said there they are....those two got out of that car and smashed my neighbors car window and attempted to drive off as I ran out there screaming at them and watched one car length away as the woman walked right in front of me and got

I agree for harsher punishments these people just don't seem to care or understand if their getting a little slap on the hand, maybe then they'll think twice about doing crime.

My truck was stolen at the beginning of February & never recovered. The Albuquerque auto theft & home break-ins are getting out of hand & a big part of the problem is that the punishment, if any, is way too lenient. Thieves aren't worried, because they know our judges will let them right out. If we can't get the judges to crack down on thieves, it's time that we as citizens look at who we are voting into the seats at the courthouse. It would be nice to see more police presence throughout the city. I drive around half the day & there are plenty of days where I see not one single officer. We need to fix our shortage of officers

Car theft is out of control and as a result citizens are put in harm's way, seriously injured and even dying due to these car thefts.

Put these thieves away longer on their first offence. Make a second offence a felony. Three strikes you're out period.
