Harsher Punishments and More Investigations for Auto Theft in Albuquerque, NM

Make a thief rethink stealing with harsher penalties. And don't wait for a chop shop to have 20 stolen cars sitting in their lot before getting 4 search warrant. Make penalties for them too more harsh. C'mon lawmakers & judges! Do your job!

The criminals laugh on their way out of jail as they plan their next venture because they know they can get away with a slap on the wrist. The victims suffer more punishment than the criminal when we walk out of a grocery store, church, movie theatre, work and have to get a ride home. Or even worse, when we walk out the door to go to work and can't, because our vehicle is gone. Then, if the vehicle is found, we have to pay a deductible to get it fixed and those with liability have to pay in full. Vehicles are being found burnt, chopped, full of trash, paraphernalia, alcohol containers and since it's our property, we have to clean up their mess! A mess they have no business making.

Albuquerque judiciary system, hear your constituents!!!! We are tired of you letting repeat criminals out of jail!!!

Please allow for more harsh punishments. We had our truck stolen Christmas night. This senseless theft leaves our family in a bind. It's happening more and more in a Neighborhood we chose to live in due to hearing how nice and quiet it was. We've only been here a year and a half and ee are not impressed with the laws here. There is no justice!

Keep the peeps in jail longer, higher bails

There needs to be harsher punishments implemented into our justice system. It is so hard waking up every morning knowing that someone has taken all your hard work away from you and your child. It is even harder knowing that the only ones willing to help us are our Facebook friends, and even then we're being laughed at by the criminals who did it in the first place.

When my car was located after 3 weeks. I found items that didn't belong to me. The Bernalillo County Sheriff's Depty treated me like I was the Criminal, stating "It had all be returned to the people who stole the vehicle." Horrorible taste left in my mouth.....

I've been a resident of Albuquerque my whole life. I'm a public servant in this city and have been since 2006. I am disappointed in what this city has become! I am also disgusted at the lack of effort and action taken to combat this problem. Hard working people are having there lives torn apart by little thugs that swoop in while we sleep and take our cars, vandalise our cars and take our piece of mind. Being that there is a lot of comments (a good thing) I'm going to assume this comment may be overlooked. If not then please help this problem make it to the top of the priority list for the heads of state and police chief!

We moved here 9 months ago so I could complete my degree and settle down with the lovely weather. My wife and are now desperately saving to leave the state due to auto theft, property crime, and the horrible violent crime rate. I'm starting to see that we weren't unlucky, It's horrible to live here.

My truck was an attempted robbery victim. I sign with petiton because i have seen so many vehicles stolen in just my area alone. It affects those who work hard to get the little they own, for what some little punks take for a joy ride to just destroy someone else's hard earned property that gets them to and from their jobs. Once they are caught, then judges release them on their own recognizance, and they go out and continue to steal vehicles. They need to do hard time for these crimes, and not be let go for just a slap on the wrist.

Higher penalties are needed for this vehicle theft problem in Bernalillo and Valencia counties!

I feel they need tougher laws,like instance thief's stay in jail for along time.1strike you stay in jail,minor or adult,we were victoms as well of autotheft.but now they are burning vechiles,,and for some that is there only transportation, and are unable to buy another,it is starting to be a epedemic on autotheft,,etc.

This auto thief is out of control in Albuquerque

We are in desperate need of harsher penalties for crime in New Mexico. My family alone had been victimized 3 times due to auto theft, as well as an attempted home invasion as well as identity theft! We're over it!!! Thankfully the jerk who stole my husband's identity is now serving 3 years, BUT that was long after he was arrested again and again in stolen vehicles and other IDs he had stolen!

I've watched too many people get their vehicles taken and when someone is caught they take another mugshot and release them with minimal to no punishment all while the vehicle owner has lost so much. It may be their only means of transportation and fighting insurance to get almost nothing to replace what is lost. These vandals and thieves continue and it really needs to stop.

It is sad to see what my beloved city is becoming and NOONE doing anything about it.

My car was stolen and now I have a hard time sleeping peacefully at night with it out in the parking lot. I feel like the thieves will come for it again.
