Continuing this opportunity for students is invaluable as much as taking it away is destructive. In a time when society needs increased opportunities and outlets for expression, keeping this option is vital. Band classes serve and support all areas of the Provincial Education Plan, students personal growth and reinforces learning in all other subject areas.

Band and music education is essential to the well rounded growth of students. It’s only extra in the sense that learning how to cook well is extra. Sure, we can all live on canned tomatoes, but it would be a pretty miserable existence. Music also improves lateral thinking, presentation abilities, analytical thought, and many more things that are direct, lifelong benefits to kids. Also, someone who plays the euphonium weekly is less likely to start using heroin - they will be too busy practicing or performing. I could go on, but this is all to say that this is a poor choice. Sorry money is tight, but mobilize for election season and make your priorities known so you can get the money you need to do what needs doing. Don’t pass the buck onto the kids.

I think that music education is very important and should not be taken away from students. Please offer band in the upper grades.

Music education is important for our highschool students. The idea of not having music in grade 7 is unacceptable to my grade 6 child who has fallen in love with playing her clarinet.

J'ai travaillé avec tous les élèves de ECF PGD/PMR et le programme d'harmonie. Ce programme enrichie l'expérience d'apprentissage pour chacun d'eux. Ils ont toujours hâte de participer aux lessons. La continuité du programme de PMR au PGD sans intéruption est primordial.

Continuing an elective like band allows student to find meaningful engagement in the school and school community. There are numerous sources stating the importance of a sustained band program in a school. Grade 6 is a great introduction- then allow the students to thrive!
