What a terrible plan. Weequahic has a history of being a leader in education. Closing the school will cut off the great opportunities afforded its students. The alumni association and the current educators are doing a great job and could probably do an even better job with less government interference

Making public schools privatized charter schools goes against our American ideal of a free education for all...destroying the neighborhoods system totally in a city that is struggling to rise from the ashes and be a magnet of opportunity for NJ as it once was.....charter schools admit failure on the part of the Superintendent and the entire school system...it is a slap in the face to hardworking teachers, students and their parents, as well as using public funds for private profit....I am a graduate of Newark schools, and Weeequahic is responsible for a wonderful educational experience....as well as the first nine years of my professional teaching career....I urge the city to reconsider the plan to create a charter system which segregates it's students and does not work to improve the entire system by engaging the parents and the businesses to work together for the educational benefit of all it's citizens.

I believe in my alma mata as a school which can prove to be a continued beacon to light the path for other successful schools within the Newark Public School System. The dismantling of this school will be deliterious in the community, hearts and minds of all who seek school improvement in Newark.

Closing schools to re-open privatized public schools cannot be the only solution for success. I believe we must pull together as a community to create and sustain a school community that values excellent teaching, fosters disciplined learners and graduates Newark's future leaders. HANDS OFF WEEQUAHIC!

The best way to resolve the geuine issues involved here is for the Superinterndant, the community and the Alumni Association to commit to a plan to increase pta involvement in the feeder schools, commensing with the lowere grades and assure parental involvement when those students reach high school. Create a culture of parental involvement and create a culture for the kids. from the beginning of their school life which values doing well in school and getting good grades so that higher education is expected and earned. .

How sad it is for the state to even consider closing down one of the greatest schools in the city and state of New Jersey... A HS that turned out several great professionals in Football, Basketball Golf, Baseball, Law. Great Jazz vocalist and more... Actors such as Jerry Lewis and a host of others... Leave our school alone... Me being a proud former Student of Weequahich HS graduating in 1968 am proud to attend sporting events to hear the song that I created Orange and Brown, you look so good to me Once again, leave our school alone.

I am a 1968 graduate from Weequahich High School. I have nothing but the fondest thoughts of my years as an Indiian. Playing football for three years and creating the song Orange and Brown which is still be played today, It sadens my heart to even think about my great High School closing... this would be a a horrible thing to do... Keep this school open...
