The health of children is the #1 priority. A safe, viable, organic field could be installed for less by experts who will donate their time and expertise. So why gamble with the health of children?

The health of children is a first priority. More investigation is necessary, especially because an alternative organic field is still a viable and affordable option.

Let's not play games with our kids health. Tires are for cars, even burned with coal in power plants, but not intended to be ingested or touch our children's precious bodies for hours on end.

As a former Pierson athlete who played field hockey at the state championship level, I understand the intention behind this. But the health risks to our children is serious. So all options should be thoroughly explored. Are there options for crumb free turf? Astro turf?

Would you allow your children to play in a toxic waste dump? This is what the rear playing fields of Pierson will be after the installation of artificial turf containing crumb rubber. See for yourself the effects of cancer on young children on the 11th floor of Stony Brook University Medical Center. It's not a pretty sight! I have advised my two teenaged children that under no conditions, are they to use these field/s at Pierson if this comes to be.

This from the Environmental Defense Fund: Please do not install synthetic turf at Pierson until more is known about its potential health effects. Federal testing of chemicals now in wide commercial distribution is woefully inadequate. That's why Congress, in bipartisan agreement, is right now reforming the obsolete TSCA law. I've been coming to Sag Harbor since I was 3 years old, and would hate to see more potentially-dangerous substances introduced to this beloved town. Thank you. Peter Klebnikov

When we asked about the turf back at the workshops on the bond, I specifically recall the representative (not school staff) saying that the turf was 'natural rubber' which I thought meant 'came from a tree.' If this is not the case, there was in fact a misrepresentation, intentional or not.

Please stop the installation of turf that is cancer causing. How can our community's children be exposed to toxic turf? It's terrible.

Our kids from East Hampton middle and High school will play against Pierson on this turf - it has to be stopped, keep the mud and grass for a safer planet for our kids
