HALT SYNTHETIC TURF AT PIERSON

I was against this at the beginning and still feel it is a bad decision. I have read numerous article talking about the negative health affects.

On another environmental note: Synthetic turf does not absorb rainwater, which increases storm water run-off, which may leach chemicals into underlying groundwater and our precious bays.

More studies should be conducted on this matter

It's a disgrace that our town is spending tax dollars to install sythetic ground covert which is linked to cancer causing properties. I oppose my tax dollars being spent on this!!

The Jury is still out on this. I'm not only concerned with the possible carcinogenic but any athlete/sports medicine person will support that there are greater sport related injuries caused my synthetic turf. In my option its not worth the "Risk vs. Reward".

This Turf Project not about the children, it's only about Contractors Politicians ripping off the public and making big profits, again .

Please do not start this project until and if safety concerns are sincerely addressed.

No data/research/studies have been done on installing toxic turf in an environment as unique as Sag Harbor - a farming community surrounded by water. Our weather is different, our earth (black gold) is different, the ratio of land to water is different. Those variables skew all data and studies, making all reports invalid and useless for forming any conclusion for our area. And....if there's even a 1% risk of harm for our children, then we should halt the project Immediately. I don't want to join in on the parents groups who are a part of the current studies of cancer clusters in youth athletes playing on artificial turf. Real grass for real athletes! The negative impact for our ecosystem is a huge concern nobody is focusing on - say goodbye to the worms, ants, birds who feed on natural grass - say hello to toxic chemicals (organic rubber) in our water runoff and ground water which pollutes our bays, streams, wetlands, fish and wildlife. SH fields are too close to the LI Sound and the Atlantic Ocean - the underground leaching/runoff from an "organic rubber" field is too toxic. Grass produces oxygen in our air, toxic turf produces plastic fumes. This should be a community debate rather than a school decision - it affects the East End of Long Island, not just SH schools. The Clean Water Act is reinvestigating their old data and imposing fines for toxic runoff from artificial turf into waters in Cali.: lead, barium, etc. (from "organic rubber"). As we've witnessed with urban development out East...you can't get a "do over" once the damage is done. As the mother of 3 SH athletes, I'd much rather have them play in real grass and clean off mud and grass stains from their sports uniforms instead of chemicals and toxic "organic rubber". Just say NO to toxic turf!

Many schools in California have decided against this turf for all the reasons cited. Not only is it a danger to the children but it limits wildlife activity- the bugs, worms and birds disappear. Chemical off gassing is a huge health concern.

Don't install synthetic turf until it is fully researched and the safety issues are resolved with the community.
